About This Event

The Celebrating Global Stories and Textiles event at St Pauls RC Church in Glasgow will take place on 22 August 2026. The event is an exhibition, featuring various exhibitors, and admission prices vary and can be checked on the event's website.

Textiles, tea and talking... what more could you want on a Saturday? It’s being organised by the humanitarian charity SCIAF and will take place on Saturday, 22 August in Shettleston. Organiser Elaine McGinlay said: “It will be a chance for people to explore both Scottish Tartan as well as chitenge fabric from Zambia, one of the countries that SCIAF works in in Africa. The event was made possible thanks to National Lottery players. “You’ll have the chance to create your own fabric design inspired by your memories, stories and communities. You don’t need any art experience – you can contribute through simple mark-making or printmaking or just get involved in the chat. Each individual fabric design will be sewn together live on the day to make a shared artwork celebrating local and global stories and connections. “There are two sessions on the day – at 10am and 1pm and there’s even a creche for children aged under ten, to allow parents and carers to take part. The sessions are open to people over ten. “We’re delighted to have received support from National Lottery Awards for All Scotland for This event. It will celebrate international connections of Scotland and Zambia going ‘All In’ for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The funding allows us provide a free creche service so more people can join in.” The sessions will be held in St Paul’s Church hall at 1651 Shettleston Road, G32 9AR.
