Write & read - Guided tools to express yourself and connect with others.

In this taster session, we will explore:

Our workshop is designed to support people in finding or developing their voice while connecting to themselves and their surroundings. With smaller writing exercises and shared reading, we will focus on climate change, the natural world and environmental issues – topics that are often intertwined. You don't need to know anything about the topics or creative writing and shared reading beforehand. The workshop is for anyone who works or volunteers in a third sector organisation or group in Glasgow.

We also invite you to consider how this approach could help you engage your community in conversations about climate change in the future, and in what ways we could support you.

Where & when?

Glasgow Climate Action Hub offers a free session in a relaxed, friendly space on the 14th of October 2026, 10-12pm, at Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector (GCVS), 348 Argyle Street, Glasgow G2 8LX.

Creative writing and shared reading

With pen and paper, you will be guided through creative writing exercises by our facilitator. You are welcome to bring a laptop, if that works better for you.

You will get the opportunity to share some of your writings with the group, if you wish. The exercises can help you to tap into your inner world and put words on your thoughts, ideas and emotions.

The other workshop element is shared reading. This part is based on principles from The Readers. The facilitator will read aloud a few texts (could be short fiction and a poem). During the reading, we will take a few breaks to discuss the text and what it can bring out of reflections, memories, thoughts, etc.

Sharing and hearing other people's texts and thoughts can give us new ways of seeing things, expanding our view of the world.

You don’t have to prepare anything, just sign up to join the workshop.

The workshop aims to…

- support ways you can express yourself,

- help you put your world into words,

- make a comfortable space for creativity and reflections with others,

- explore how topics related to environmental challenges and the natural world can be used in creative and reflective approaches.

Ideally, the workshop will give you ideas on how to use this approach in your community. For example, this could be hosting sessions like this yourself, or getting The Hub involved. We would welcome your thoughts on how this creative and reflective practice can be used going forward in your area - maybe ideas will arise during the session.

Thoughts behind this approach

Environmentally friendly directions and actions can grow out of a variety of approaches. With this workshop, we want to open up a gentle, accessible way to engage with the topics, with space for participants to share what they discover along the way.
