About This Event

This screening is the first in a series celebrating 50 years of the National Library of Scotland's film archive at Kelvin Hall. The film was originally commissioned as part of the Cultural Festival accompanying the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. It takes us on a journey into our collective past, exploring universal themes of love, loss, resistance, migration, work, and play. Ordinary people, some long since dead, appear shimmering from the vaults to take a starring role. Brilliantly edited together, these silent individuals become composite characters who tell us their stories. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Virginia Heath, film producer Grant Keir, and executive producer Mark Thomas.
