Step back into the rich history of one of Milngavie’s most beloved landmarks. Join Ruth Duncan as she shares the story of Duncan’s of Milngavie—a thriving 1¾-acre garden centre and flower shop that flourished for over 40 years.

At its peak, Duncan’s employed 65 staff across its bustling plant centre, flower shop, and much-loved terrace tea room—one of the first in Scotland to offer on-site refreshments. Visitors came not only for plants, but for its legendary crunchy meringues and carrot cake.

More than just a business, Duncan’s was woven into the fabric of the community, with roots stretching back to the 1700s and connections to Milngavie Reservoir and even Scotland’s lighthouses. It also made its mark in events like the Glasgow Garden Festival 1988 and even appeared in Taggart.
