Join us for the launch of the latest issue of New Writing Scotland, Writing the Snakes, with a mix of readings of poetry, short fiction and non-fiction in English, Gaelic and Scots from the contributors!

New Writing Scotland is the principal forum for poetry and short fiction in Scotland today. Every year they publish the very best from emerging and established writers, and list many of the leading literary lights of Scotland among its contributors.

We will be joined by the editors of Naming the Snakes and a number of contributors for this very special event! Reading at the launch of New Writing Scotland 44 will be:

Lynn Davidson writes essays, poetry, and fiction. Her memoir, Do you still have time for chaos?, was published by Main Point Books, Edinburgh, earlier this year. Her latest poetry collection, Islander, was published by Shearsman Books, Bristol, and Te Herenga Waka University Press, Wellington, in 2019.

Nicola Fitzhenry has worked in education and the third sector, and now indulges her passion for reading and writing about women and history. She lives in Glasgow and makes frequent forays to Fife for research on a historical novel about women in the eighteenth century.

Tom O. Keenan is a writer living in the North West Highlands, traditionally published in crime fiction, and currently undertaking an MLitt in Creative Writing. His work is informed by over thirty years as a social worker.

Iain MacLeod is a bookseller in Glasgow. Born into the thin air between shipyards and shepherds, he has been writing for five years but thinking about it for the prior forty. Work has been published recently in Shearsman, and by Saraband and Renard Press, from five completed collections.

Robbie MacLeòid is a queer writer, published in multiple languages and multiple countries. His debut poetry pamphlet, ‘Am Measg Luaithrean, Beò’ (‘Living Among Ashes’), came out in 2025.

Finola Scott writes to try to unravel world events. ‘Trembling Earth’, her latest pamphlet, considers the climate crisis. Find her in The Irish Pages Press, Consilience, Lighthouse, and Gutter.
