The Tramway in Glasgow will present a forthcoming commission titled *Folding Songs* featuring Martin Green and Svetlana Spajić. The event is scheduled for 25 September 2026 as part of the Sonica Glasgow programme.
A Sonica Glasgow Commission, co-produced by Cryptic and Perth Theatre and Concert Hall This song cycle is inspired by composer Martin Green’s fascination for the universal affinities he finds in folk songs around the world. Folding Songs brings together music from Scotland and Serbia and although they originate from two ostensibly different cultures, these songs share universal themes of love and loss, heartbreak and hope. Alongside his classic accordion, Green adds his own custom-built instrument: the syndrone, a unique synth/drone together with the improvisational guitarwork of Scotland’s Graeme Stephen and Serbian singer Svetlana Spajić’s powerful vocals. These pieces build from the simplest notes to towering peaks of sound, accompanied by live visuals from Kurt d’Haeseleer, costume from Alison Brown and lighting design by Zeynep Kepekli.
