Glasgow Museums Resource Centre will host a Specialist Tour on 6 October 2026 as part of Black History Month. The tour explores African myth, folklore, and material memory, with entry free of charge.
African myth and folklore play a central role in shaping cultural identity, belief systems and collective memory. Moving between historic wooden artefacts and contemporary works, this tour explores how African women, spiritual power and myth have been represented and, at times, misunderstood. Join Gallery Assistant and African art enthusiast Lizzie Eidson as she examines sculptural and painted depictions of African women across time, drawing on Ethiopian, Mende and wider African oral traditions, alongside Yoruba-inflected ideas, to consider how these narratives have been erased and reanimated in contemporary practice. FREE but limited to 15 spaces. Book your place by emailing museumbookings@glasgowlife.org.uk with the name and date of the tour your would like to attend.
