The specialist tour examines how colonial legacies appear in printmaking through the work of contemporary artists. It takes place at Glasgow Museums Resource Centre on 13 October 2026. Entry is free.
"Colonial legacies consistently seep through the cracks of printmaking, and these narratives are resurfaced through contemporary printmakers. The process of printmaking acts as a storytelling medium, as this craft plays a vital role in shaping cultural outlooks across history. Through intaglio, transfer and silkscreen prints within Glasgow Museum’s collection, this tour will explore themes of race, trade and colonial histories. From early works such as Rembrandt’s etchings to contemporary screen prints by Graham Fagen, we will look at the presence of African and Caribbean diasporas within colonial contexts and the symbolism of histories presented throughout. Join Printmaker and Gallery Assistant Lizzie Eidson at Glasgow Museum’s Resource Centre this Black History Month for a tour grounded in prints and the past!" FREE but limited to 15 spaces. Book your place by emailing museumbookings@glasgowlife.org.uk with the name and date of the tour your would like to attend. Image: banner, 1832, Gifted 1900 © CSG CIC Glasgow Life Museums Collection
