Learn to defend yourself from zombies - with swords.

Using their knowledge of historical fighting and training of men-at-arms, The Vanguard Centre team have put together some lessons to help survivors of Z-day battle the undead, hold off raiding bandits, and stay fit and healthy in the end times.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about European arms and armour, handle some replicas of the longswords, rapiers, sabres, cutlasses, and broadswords used between the 10th and 20th centuries, and bring questions to the experts on the use, manufacture, culture, and art of swords. There will be demonstrations of full-contact sword fights with modern protective gear, explanations of how best to tackle the necromantic swarms, and best of all: the chance to try out some lessons yourselves! Padded training swords will be provided, along with training some of the basic moves and techniques to get into the action.

The Vanguard Centre is the permanent venue of The Academy of Historical Arts in Glasgow city centre. They are an archery and Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) school that teaches authentic swordfighting and other combat sports in a safe, social, and entertaining space. The instructors from Vanguard have years of experience teaching many forms of swordfighting from the past, for honour duels, self-defence, military training, or just fencing for fun because, lets face it - swords are cool!
