Experience the Great Sugar Loaf like never before on a guided sunset and night hike beneath the stars using an unusual route to the summit!

As daylight fades, join Land & Legend Trails for a memorable guided night hike to the summit of the iconic Great Sugar Loaf, one of Ireland's most distinctive mountains.

We'll begin our ascent in the golden light of evening, following well-established mountain trails towards the summit. From the top, we'll pause to watch the sun set over the Wicklow Mountains, Dublin Bay and the Irish Sea before continuing our descent by headtorch as darkness falls. With panoramic views stretching in every direction, this is one of the finest places in County Wicklow to experience the transition from day to night.

Along the way, we'll take regular breaks to appreciate the landscape, talk about the mountain's geology, local history, folklore and the surrounding landscape, while enjoying the unique atmosphere that only arrives after sunset.

This is not a race or a survival challenge—it's an opportunity to experience one of Wicklow's most iconic mountains at its most magical.

What to expect:

Guided by a qualified Lowland Leader

Approx. 7 km hike

Around 400 m of ascent

Moderate fitness required

Duration: approximately 2.5–3 hours

Small group experience

Spectacular sunset and night-time views across Wicklow and Dublin Bay (weather permitting)

Stories of the mountain's geology, history and local folklore

Headtorch required (spare available if arranged in advance)

Please bring:

Sturdy walking boots or trail shoes with good grip

Waterproof jacket and warm layers

Headtorch with fresh batteries

Water and a snack

Suitable clothing for mountain conditions
