The Bell Tower Tour Experience will take place at Grimsby Minster in Grimsby on 2026-09-19. The event offers a behind-the-scenes tour of the bell tower and the opportunity to ring one of the bells. Admission is free.
Go behind the scenes at Grimsby Minster's bell tower, visit the ringing chamber, and even ring one of the bells!
Step behind the scenes at Grimsby Minster during Heritage Open Days and discover the fascinating world of church bell ringing.
Climb the Minster's historic bell tower, ascend the winding staircase to the bell-ringing chamber, and learn about the centuries-old tradition of bell ringing from members of our experienced bell-ringing team. You'll even have the rare opportunity to take your turn at ringing one of the Minster's bells.*
Before the tour begins, there will be a short safety briefing, and all participants will be asked to sign a disclaimer.
Meeting Point: Please meet in the South Transept, which is directly opposite the North Transept entrance where you enter the Minster, on the far side of the altar.
Please note that, for health and safety reasons, the tour will go no higher than the ringing chamber. Unfortunately, access to the bell chamber and the roof is not permitted.
The tower staircase is narrow, steep, and winding, with small uneven steps, no handrail, and dim lighting. For this reason, we do not recommend this experience for anyone with a fear of heights or enclosed spaces, or those with limited mobility or impaired vision.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes, with one per hour from 10am - 1pm.
Children under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
*Children under the age of 10 are welcome to take part in the tour but will not be permitted to ring the bells.
