Vera Brittain is best known for A Testament of Youth, her memoir of the Great War 1914-18. This talk will look at her life up to and including the war years which she spent as a nurse. Particularly addressing her involvement with four young men who were to feature strongly in her life, and who were to die during that conflict: her beloved brother Edward, her fiancé Roland Leighton, school friend Victor Richardson and Geoffrey Thurlow – Edward’s fellow officer. The talk will be interspersed with readings of her poetry, that of Roland Leighton, and other contemporary poets. We’re delighted to offer our afternoon talks on a Pay What You Can basis.
