About This Event

Emin and Kahlo: The Pleasure and the Pain is a talk on 2 October 2026 at 19:00 in The Guildford Institute, Guildford. The event examines the contrasting careers of Tracey Emin and Frida Kahlo with tickets priced at £20.25 to £23.00.

In a year that features both Tracey Emin (b. 1963) and Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) in exhibitions at Tate Modern, it seems fitting to reflect on the way these two artists used their life experiences to express pleasure and pain in their works of art. In 2000 Mary McCartney photographed Tracey Emin as Frida Kahlo lying on a bed; this bold image serves to highlight the interconnection of these two women artists who dared to be different.
