Join us for a very special Open Day at our Greenacres Sanctuary in Brede, East Sussex

Greenacres is home to many of our long-term resident cats, elderly cats and those needing extra love and care, but it is also a busy rescue, welfare and rehoming centre. Every day we see first-hand just how many cats are in need of help. From abandoned and unwanted cats to strays, injured cats and kittens born outside, demand for our services continues to grow.

Our team works throughout Hastings, Bexhill, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding towns and villages, helping cats in need and finding loving new homes for as many as possible.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the sanctuary, meet our team, learn more about our rescue and welfare work and meet some of the many cats and kittens in our care. We have some truly beautiful cats looking for homes, alongside some cats who may not be conventionally beautiful but are every bit as lovable and deserving of a second chance.

You will also have the chance to meet some of the cats on our Sponsorship Scheme. Sponsoring a cat for a year is a wonderful way to support our work and makes a thoughtful gift for any cat lover – or a special treat for yourself.

There will be plenty to enjoy throughout the day, including tea, coffee and homemade cakes, bric-a-brac, cat-themed gifts and a variety of stalls selling wonderful goodies in support of the charity. We will also have a dedicated Meet & Greet Kitten Corner, giving visitors the opportunity to meet some of our younger residents.

As 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Celia Hammond Animal Trust, there will be a special presentation celebrating 40 years of rescue, welfare and rehoming work, reflecting on the thousands of cats whose lives have been changed through the charity's work over the last four decades.

Whether you live locally or are travelling from further afield, we would be delighted to welcome you. There will be opportunities to donate, sponsor cats, meet cats available for adoption, and find out more about the many ways you can support our work.

If you are able to, all we ask is that you bring a tin or two of cat food as a gift for our rescued cats. Food donations are always greatly appreciated and help us care for the many cats and kittens who rely on us every day.

As this is a working sanctuary and rescue centre, tickets are limited to help keep the day calm and stress-free for the cats. Entry is therefore by free timed ticket only, with 12 visitors per 30-minute slot between 12pm and 4pm. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis via Eventbrite.
