About This Event

A guided walk with a ranger takes place at Oyster Creek in Hastings. This early morning excursion focuses on observing birds, with tickets priced between £16.15 and £19.00.

The early bird catches the worm! On this peaceful walk, you'll see and hear a variety of birds you might not catch later in the day.

Walk Leader: David King

Join Ranger Dave for an exclusive, peaceful guided walk, not long after sunrise, around the beautiful landscape of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and its fringes. We'll be looking and listening for seasonal wildlife such as garden birds, warblers, terns and the wading birds of the saltmarsh.

Dave is a qualified bird ringer with over 40 years of birding experience. You'll also hear from him about the work of the Rangers and our volunteers, with the chance to ask questions. Previous attendees of Dave's walks said:

"Relaxed atmosphere, highly informative, friendly, good length, great to be able to look through the ranger's telescope."

"It was really lovely to have such an expert guide who obviously enjoyed his job and was so knowledgeable."

Meeting at Oyster Creek (just off Harbour Road), we'll take a slow walk of around 2 miles (3km), ending up on the path to the Discovery Centre, not far from the main Rye Harbour entrance to the nature reserve. Sighted Guides and Carers are very welcome at this event.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a wetland habitat of international importance, particularly for waterbirds. There's a mosaic of habitats including saltmarsh, scrub, saline lagoons and ditches, which support many rare and vulnerable species.
