About This Event

The C&G Level 3 Award in Inspection & Testing is scheduled for August 27, 2026 at Inverness College UHI in Inverness. This course is relevant to current industry standards and regulations, including BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 wiring regulations (Orange Book) and IET Guidance Note 3. Participants will have the opportunity to network with peers who share a similar professional interest, enhancing their skill set in inspection and testing.

Course commences on the 27th August and will run every Thursday until the 8th August.

The 1st and 8th August are practical exam dates. Some attendees may complete their exams and the course on the 1st August whilst other attendees may complete on the 8th August.

This course is suitable for anyone working in the electrical industry including:

Electricians, Electrical Installers and Electrical Supervisors

Building Maintenance Supervisors

Any person who deals with Electrical Installations within Buildings

Course Prerequisites

This is not an entry-level course. To enrol, candidates must generally have:

An active 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.

A relevant Level 3 electrical qualification (such as C&G 2365, 5357, or equivalent).

Prior hands-on experience with single and three-phase testing.

Course Content

The course covers the knowledge and skills required for competent inspection and testing. Candidates will learn how to conduct inspection and testing on our specialist training rigs which simulate electrical installations. This provides the opportunity to practice verification and inspection of systems in preparation for the practical assessment and exam.

The Assessment Structure

The assessment is largely open-book and cuts down on duplicate testing from the older separate routes:

Online Multiple-Choice Exam: A computer-based test covering the theoretical rules of inspection and testing.

Practical Assignment: A hands-on test where you physically isolate, inspect, and test a simulated installation, find faults, and fill out actual certificates

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) which involves reporting on the destination of school leavers (aged 16-19 yrs) for research purposes. Should you leave your course prior to completion, SDS will be able to offer you careers advice and support. We also share personal data with other bodies where we have a shared legitimate interest e.g. The Highland Council (with regard to school pupils in transition to further education); to awarding bodies/agencies for registration & certification purposes; and to employers and sponsoring bodies who pay student fees (we may share details regarding your academic progress). Your photographic image will be recorded and used for identification purposes, for attendance monitoring and for providing you with a student ID card. Your image will be stored against your electronic student record and may also be linked to your email account and your electronic college timetable for these purposes. Your personal image may be retained for up to 2 years after completion/withdrawal from studies. You may have the right to withdraw your consent for the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances, and if you are unhappy with the way your personal data is processed, you may contact the local Data Controller. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise a complaint via the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) here.
