Join us for a special screening of Burning an Illusion as part of the Hidden Beach Summer of Culture.

Directed by Menelik Shabazz, Burning an Illusion is a groundbreaking British drama and a landmark of Black British cinema. Set in London, the film follows Pat, a young woman whose hopes for love and a secure future are transformed as she confronts racism, injustice and the realities of life for Black communities in Britain.

Powerful, intimate and deeply moving, the film explores themes of identity, relationships, resilience and political awakening. Through Pat's journey, it offers an honest and enduring portrait of strength, self-discovery and the importance of community, remaining as relevant today as when it was first released.

Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for an informal Film + Conversation session, offering the opportunity to reflect on the film's themes, share perspectives and explore its lasting cultural significance.

This event is part of Hidden Beach's Film + Conversation Night series, celebrating films that inspire conversation, creativity and cultural understanding.
