About This Event

The symposium Electrocatalysis at Imperial Materials runs on 4 November 2026 at the Royal School Of Mines, South Kensington Campus. As part of the Royal School of Mines' 175th anniversary celebrations, the event showcases research in the Department of Materials alongside contributions from leading researchers. The focus is on low-temperature electrocatalysis spanning fundamental understanding, materials development and technological applications.

Electrocatalysis plays a central role in the transition towards sustainable energy and chemical production, enabling the conversion of renewable electricity into fuels and valuable chemicals. Translating fundamental advances into practical technologies requires a deeper understanding of electrochemical interfaces, catalyst activity and stability, and the factors governing performance under realistic operating conditions. As part of the Royal School of Mines’ 175th anniversary celebrations, this symposium will showcase research in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London, alongside contributions from leading researchers in academia and industry. The focus will be on low-temperature electrocatalysis (below 100 °C), spanning fundamental understanding, materials development and technological applications. Topics will include hydrogen production, electrochemical nitrogen and carbon dioxide reduction, oxygen electrocatalysis, biomass and alkane valorisation, and the development of efficient and durable electrochemical devices. Through invited presentations and a poster session, the event will highlight how advances in fundamental electrochemistry, materials characterisation and device engineering can contribute to sustainable technologies, while fostering discussion and collaboration across disciplines and career stages. Speakers: Professor Núria López – Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia Dr Saurav Chandra Sarma – Johnson Matthey Technology Centre Professor Laurie King – Manchester Metropolitan University Schedule Morning – RSM G01 10:00 – 12:00 Presentations 12:00 – Lunch (G01) Afternoon – RSM G20 13:00 – 14:20 – Presentations 14:20 – Coffee break 14:50 – 15:40 Presentations Late afternoon RSM 242 16:30 – 18:00 Poster session For more information about RSM 175 events, please see: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/rsm-175/
