MEET OUR SPEAKERS
DAVID HAREWOOD
SAG Awards nominee and British actor David Harewood OBE is best known for playing David Estes in Homeland opposite Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, and J’onn J’onzz in The CW’s Supergirl alongside Melissa Benoist.
He will next lead Channel 4 drama Pierre as Pierre Jeffreys, a sharp and charismatic West London duty solicitor drawn into a chilling web of institutional corruption. He will also appear on the big screen in Zero AD: Bethlehem as Mystic and has recently joined the cast of the upcoming second series of Sky and HBO legal drama War, opposite Marisa Tomei and Kelly Macdonald. Created by Hijack and Lupin co-creator George Kay, the series follows two rival London law firms as they go head-to-head in a series of high-stakes, headline-grabbing cases.
He is also currently filming the noir-tinged thriller Hyde from filmmakers Graham and Parker Phillips, alongside Nathalie Emmanuel and Holt McCallany, in which he plays Robert Malloy, a lieutenant trying to keep an under-resourced department together while pursuing a serial killer and pulling lead detective Grimes (McCallany) back from the edge.
David recently completed a critically acclaimed West End run in Shakespeare’s Othello, starring in the title role opposite Toby Jones and Caitlin FitzGerald, with the production set for international cinema release.
His recent television credits include Paramount+’s Happy Face with Dennis Quaid and The Agency alongside Michael Fassbender, Richard Gere, and Jeffrey Wright. Other notable credits include BBC’s The Night Manager, Robin Hood, Sherwood, ABC’s Selfie, Amazon Prime’s Ten Percent (as himself), The Man in the High Castle, and Doctor Who. His Supergirl role also featured in crossover episodes of Arrow, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
On stage, he made history as the first Black actor to play Othello at the National Theatre in 1997 and has since starred in Best of Enemies (Young Vic / Noël Coward Theatre), The Mountaintop, Welcome to Thebes, Henry IV, and His Dark Materials, among many others.
In 2024, he founded production company Section52Films following his BBC documentaries Psychosis and Me, Why Is Covid Killing People of Colour?, and David Harewood on Blackface. He published his memoir Maybe I Don’t Belong Here in 2021.
That same year, he was appointed President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, succeeding Sir Kenneth Branagh, and was awarded an OBE for services to drama, charity, and mental health advocacy.
