About Fences

Fences at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre follows Troy Maxson as the past keeps closing in on his family in 1950s Pittsburgh. At home, his wife Rose tries to hold things together while their son Cory looks towards a future with more freedom than Troy ever had.

August Wilson’s landmark play returns in a new production directed by award-winning Daniel Bailey, whose work includes Red Pitch in the West End. The story brings together ambition, family pressure and changing expectations in one of Wilson’s best-known plays.
