A gentle stroll around the many plaques near Warwick Avenue tube station.
Please meet at Warwick Avenue tube station, Clifton Gardens exit (W9 2PT). Plan to arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The walk finishes close to Maida Vale tube station.
This is a short (maximum one hour) walk through the streets of Maida Vale near Warwick Avenue Tube station looking at the contributions to society of 5 people who are immortalised on a series of plaques placed by different organisations.
A once very famous rock star who’s career was cut short by tragedy. A wartime code breaker persecuted because of his sexuality. A campaigner who set up a magazine for lesbians, a socialist who helped found a new country and a much loved actor. All have a plaque and all lived a short distance from Warwick Avenue tube station. Come and explore!
