About Hay Fever

Hay Fever is a new production of Noël Coward’s comedy, directed by Emily Burns. Christine Baranski makes her West End debut as Judith Bliss, alongside Academy Award nominated Richard E. Grant. Set in the Bliss family’s country home, the play follows a weekend that begins with high expectations and quickly turns into friction between guests, hosts and family members.

Judith Bliss retired from life on stage last year, but she still misses the applause. While idling at home, she and her husband David, together with their children Sorrel and Simon, are too self-involved to make easy hosts. Judith invites a young fan to stay, but each member of the family has also arranged a guest of their own, all arriving at the same time.

The weekend spirals into a sequence of parlour games, put-downs and unrequested encores as the Blisses prove entirely unsuited to hosting and allergic to compromise.
