Description:

This new Bangla-English drama explores curiosity, ageing, family, and hope. The story centres on Jahanara Begum, an elderly woman living with her daughter and two granddaughters. After suffering a stroke, she has limited mobility and her world becomes smaller. Jahanara has little meaningful communication with her family and feels deeply lonely. Her curiosity about her place in the family quietly grows. She questions whether anyone listens to her and whether life can still change. Alongside her is Sirazul Islam, a devoted grandfather. His life revolves around his grandson Abid. Fear and love lie behind Sirazul’s curiosity - he senses something is wrong when his son begins planning to move him into a care home. He questions trust, independence, and what it means to grow old with dignity. Aleya Begum is another voice in this shared journey. She feels trapped in the UK, constantly dreaming of Italy where her husband lives. Her curiosity is filled with longing - what if she leaves, what if she stays, and where does she truly belong?

Another character has lost a significant amount of money through a scam. His curiosity stems from desperation. He is searching for a way out, even attempting to run away and evade responsibility. By chance, these characters come together at the “Old Gate” - a symbolic and literal meeting place. Their shared curiosity brings conflict, connection, and unexpected possibilities. They question their lives, relationships, and choices. Through doing so, they discover that curiosity can be both dangerous and healing. Regardless of age, what happens when we dare to ask “what if…”?
