Another free walk organized by Inside Out to celebrate open-air arts and culture in Westminster will be held on August 26th at St John the Evangelist, Kensal Green, featuring various participants without any costs involved.
One of a series of free walks from the Westminster Guides supported by Inside Out to celebrate open-air arts and culture in Westminster!
Once owned by an Oxford College and known as ‘Chelsea Detached’, we trace history from green fields to today’s quiet and attractive residential area full of charm and surprises.
Please meet at St John the Evangelist Church at the corner Harrow Road and Kilburn Lane (W10 4AA). Plan to arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The walk finishes at Maida Hill Market (W9 3QA).
Built nearly 150 years ago to house respectable manual labourers and key workers of the day, the streets of Queen’s Park within the City of Westminster have a distinctive character all their own. Over the years many different communities made their homes in ‘The Avenues’ and still do today, creating a diverse, tolerant and resilient neighbourhood. Happily it is well-preserved and intact. Although the cottage style houses look identical, there are lots of subtle distinctions and gradings. Play spot the difference on this walk!
This is one of 25 "A Wander through Westminster" Walks offered by the City of Westminster Guides in conjunction with the Inside Out Programme that celebrates open-air art and culture in Westminster. Why not join in other Inside Out activities on offer: https://www.westminster.gov.uk/leisure-libraries-and-community/arts-and-culture/experience-inside-out-westminsters-free-outdoor-arts-festival?
Some Practical Details:
Please dress for the weather, with light, breathable attire, a hat, sunglasses, fan, and sunscreen in the case of hot weather and an umbrella and rainwear should the weather be inclement. Wear sensible shoes or sandals and carry a bottle of water with you.
All walks are led by trained City of Westminster Guides who love to share their knowledge of the borough with residents and visitors. Please respect their time and efforts by cancelling your place should you not be able to attend to allow someone else to join.
