About This Event

As part of Lancelot Andrewes' 400th anniversary celebrations, Southwark Cathedral will host a talk featuring Rowan Williams on 26 September 2026. The session explores the life, faith and legacy of one of the most distinctive voices in Anglican preaching history. Various speakers are scheduled to present this event as a free public lecture. This gathering forms part of the broader commemorative programme for the historic anniversary.

As part of our Lancelot Andrewes' 400th anniversary celebrations, join Rowan Williams for a talk exploring Andrewes' life, faith and legacy.

Lancelot Andrewes is one of the most distinctive voices in early modern preaching. This talk will look at some of his favourite techniques as a preacher, drawing out the importance for him of presenting not a linear argument so much as a web of inviting images and insights, a style both serious and at times playful.

This event will involve a talk by Rowan Williams, with an opportunity at the end for an audience Q&A.
