The upcoming lecture in the Price & Myers Lecture series will focus on the innovative retrofitting of Pembroke Mill Lane. Attendees can expect insights into the challenges and solutions involved in the deep retrofit of a diverse array of existing buildings. This event is intended for those interested in community development and architectural practices. Admission is free.
Join us for the next event in the Price & Myers Lecture series, exploring the making of Pembroke Mill Lane.
The project combines the deep retrofit of several very different existing buildings, including a former workshop and a disused church now converted into a flexible auditorium, with six new buildings. It has increased the College's footprint by around a third while opening the site to the wider community.
The event brings together the project team behind this award-winning scheme, shortlisted for the 2026 RIBA Stirling Prize, to talk through the technical and design decisions that shaped it.
Hannah Constantine of Haworth Tompkins Architects, Joel Gustafsson of JG Consulting Services Engineers, and James Stevenson of Price & Myers Structural and Civil Engineers will discuss how the scheme balances conservation constraints with contemporary academic needs - from limited, sensitive insertions into historic fabric, to the passive design and low-carbon strategies behind the new-build elements.
