Visit the Manchester home where Emmeline Pankhurst set up the Women's Social & Political Union (later known as the Suffragette Movement)
Emmeline Pankhurst lived at 62 Nelson Street, Manchester between 1898 and 1907. On 10th October 1903 she held the very first meeting of the Women's Social & Political Union (the Suffragette Movement) here in the parlour. Visit this iconic site of women's activism, saved and rebuilt in the 1970's & 1980's by women. Discover the story of the Pankhurst family, explore their home and visit the parlour where history was made. Browse our pop-up Suffragette shop cart and take tea in our tiny tearoom.
Open Thursdays & Sundays from 11am to 4pm (last entry is 3pm).
How to find us:
We are situated on the Manchester Royal Infirmary (Hospital) site, on Nelson Street (off Grafton Street)opposite the Main Outpatients Department.
Public Transport
The nearest Train Station is Manchester Oxford Street (we are a 15/20 min walk along Oxford Street). Buses to Manchester Royal Infirmary leave from Picadilly Gardens and the bottom of Oxford Street, including routes 143, 43, V1 & V2. Neaerest bus stop is next to Sainsburys on Oxford Street.
Car Parking
There is no public car park at the Pankhurst Musuem. However, we are right next to the hospital Grafton Street Car Park , parking available on floors 0,1 & 2 (charges apply). Blue Badge Holders can park for free (in the marked bays) in Grafton Street Car Park (give the Car Park Office your car registration number).
Free 3 hour parking is available on the roads leading off of Plymouth Grove (a 5 minute walk from the museum).
