Study session for film lovers and Spanish language learners with the film 'El desencanto'.
The Instituto Cervantes Manchester is launching “Back to the Cinema”, a series of study and film-enjoyment sessions designed for Spanish-language students and cinema lovers, led by Ana Valbuena. The aim is to revive the collective experience of going to the cinema at a time when, due to the rise of home viewing and digital platforms, watching films in a movie theatre has almost become a thing of the past.
This session is dedicated to celebrating Spanish Cinema Day.
This participatory film club invites audiences to return to the cinema, to share the viewing of a film, and to transform that moment into a lively, dynamic space for connection. Following an accessible introduction in Spanish, El desencanto will be screened, both with English subtitles. After the screening, participants will have the opportunity to practise and improve their Spanish through a specially designed study pack based on the main themes of the films. In this way, language learning is combined with film analysis and with the revival of the pleasure of watching cinema as a community.
A conversational level of Spanish is recommended.
