A festive waterside ramble, on the fringes of the Peak District, exploring the Peak Forest canal, Strines and the River Goyt

Welcome to Freshwalks. This Walks for Women event is part of our own vibrant business community programme and women in business are welcome to join us for some invigorating networking in the great outdoors. This monthly series offers a perfect entry level option and is ideal for those with busy diaries. Feel free to come alone - most Freshwalkers do - and you'll be warmly welcomed or invite a colleague or client along for company.

Route description

Our route sees us heading south out of Marple along the Peak Forest Canal where we’ll enjoy the increasingly semi-rural waterside surroundings at a gentle pace. After about an hour, we leave the canal and head in the direction of Strines before following the river back into Marple Bridge via the Roman Lakes.

Distance: 9km

Parking: There is a car park for non train users across the road from the station car park.

Public transport: Please take the 10:18 train from Manchester Piccadilly to arrive in Marple 10:43.

Toilets: No public toilets at Marple station. However, Asda supermarket 2 mins drive away and cafes are open in Marple Bridge 5 mins walk away.
