NW London venue
How was the modern Middle East shaped over the past century, and why does the region dominate global geopolitics more than ever now – right up to Israel’s conflict with Iran?
Join Simon Sebag Montefiore as his new book The Cauldron is published, in conversation with fellow historian Dominic Green at a very special JC event.
From the fall of empires to the creation of Israel and the conflicts that still dominate headlines today, The Cauldron is a sweeping, gripping history of the Middle East.
How did Britain and France carve up the Middle East after the First World War? Will a two-state solution ever succeed? What is the future of Israeli democracy? And why is jihadism so widespread in the 21st century?
Montefiore brings to life the extraordinary characters who forged the region as we know it and explores the deep complexity, diversity and cultural richness of the closely intertwined history of Jews, Muslims and Christian.
This an essential event for anyone seeking to understand the recent past and where the region may be headed.
The discussion will be followed by audience Q&A and book signing.
Event is sponsored by The Jerusalem Foundation.
Copies of The Cauldron: The Making of the Modern Middle East (Weidenfeld & Nicolson, £25, hardback) will be available to buy at a special discounted price with your ticket.
