Xanthe’s World at the Tom Thumb Xanthe’s World is a new series of story‑led family art workshops at the Tom Thumb, led by Xanthe (8), an exhibiting young artist, and co‑developed with photographer and arts marketer Imogen Tinkler. Each workshop is inspired by a major artist and invites children and adults to make work side by side, exploring pattern, colour and new ways of looking at the world. At the heart of Xanthe’s World is one idea: art can be anything you want it to be, when you create it together. Families will also have the rare chance to experience what it’s like to have their work exhibited : each family can choose one or two pieces from the workshops to be shown in a playful, informal exhibition upstairs in the bar on Saturday 5th September, where they can invite friends and family to come and see what they’ve made. Xanthe’s World: David Hockney Tuesday 18 August, Enter Time Story‑led workshop – £12.50 individual / £20 parent‑and‑child (materials provided) A colour‑rich, place‑focused workshop where children and families: - Take part in a story‑led introduction to David Hockney, looking at how he uses colour and unusual viewpoints to show how places feel. - Play with warm‑ups that free up drawing and colour choices and move away from “getting it right”. - Make your own Hockney place picture of somewhere you love (home, beach, street, garden), using bold colour and simplified shapes. - Create a collective artwork of Margate: a shared landscape built from everyone’s fragments, to sit alongside the individual works in the exhibition.
