The Copper Embossing Taster Workshop provides an introduction to the art of copper embossing, led by local artist Carley. Participants will learn to transform copper using various techniques, exploring textures and shapes inspired by nature and everyday objects. The workshop is suitable for all skill levels, including those with no prior experience.
Have you ever wanted to try your hand at creating with metal, but didn't know where to start? This taster workshop is the intro you need.
Join Hartlepool artist, Carley, for the perfect taster workshop to introduce you to a world of copper embossing.
In this workshop, you will explore how a small piece of copper can be transformed using line, shape, texture and pressure. Any number of natural or man-made items could inspire your work. From the movement of waves, to the veins of a leaf, or the texture of tree bark. From the pattern of an everyday object to an architectural detail.
You'll work with a small piece of thin copper and learn how to simplify an image into strong lines and shapes. Using ball ended tools you'll emboss the metal from both sides to create raised and recessed areas.
There's no need to be confident at drawing or have any previous experience working with metal. You can also trace an image onto the copper if you prefer. You’ll be shown what to do with step-by-step instructions, and help and guidance will be available throughout the process.
If time allows, you'll also have a chance to try out heat colouring your copper, creating flashes of colour across the surface. This introduces an element of chance - you can influence the colours but never completely control how they develop.
You will be able to take your finished work home with you. You can also choose to have your finished pieces displayed in a group artwork as part of a larger installation.
Perfect for beginners and anyone who fancies trying something new with metal, texture and embossing! Come and spend a relaxing afternoon getting creative!
