About This Event

The Politics Project delivers a training session in Middlesbrough on 19 November 2026 aimed at engaging young people in democracy. The programme covers forming positive relationships with elected representatives, designing effective sessions and and preparing youth for interactions. Participants will explore practical guidance on reflection and identifying suitable politicians to meet. The training includes gamified activities designed for informal group settings to initiate conversations about politics.

Engaging young people in democracy through interactive activities and meaningful conversations with politicians

Delivered by The Politics Project, this training will:

Share what talking with politicians looks like when it’s done well, and how to form positive relationships between young people and their elected representatives.

Explore the outcomes you want from talking to a politician, and how to design a session that will achieve those outcomes for your young people.

Provide practical guidance on how to meaningfully prepare young people beforehand, and reflect with them afterwards.

Explore which politicians would be best placed to meet your young people, and how best to get in touch with them.

Gamifying Democracy:

In this training, we’ll share games and activities you can use in youth settings to start conversations about politics and democracy. Designed for group settings in informal spaces, youth clubs, and classrooms these games help young people explore their power, voice and their ideas for change.

These games give you meaningful and enjoyable ways to bring politics to life with young people, to support them to explore their power and agency, their ideas and opinions about local, national and global topics, and their emotions towards politics and politicians.

Conversations with Politicians:

Conversations with Politicians training supports youth practitioners to invite politicians into their youth space to talk with young people. For many young people this may be the first time they meet a politician, so getting it right can play an important role in shaping how they understand politics and their place within it.

Please note that this event will only be providing refreshments throughout the day, attendees will need to provide their own lunch.

----------------------------

There are limited spaces for this training and facilitators will be travelling from London so we want to make sure attendees are fully committed in attending.

In cases where circumstances change please try and give as much notice as possible if you can no longer attend or cancel your ticket to free up the space for someone else.
