Bystander training is an effective way to empower people to address and prevent harassment and discrimination in a workspace.

SAFE PRACTICE TRAINING

This in-person workshop introduces practical bystander intervention skills to help create safer, more respectful and inclusive workplaces across the arts and creative sectors.Bystander training empowers people to recognise and address harassment and discrimination, giving them the knowledge, tools and confidence to intervene safely and appropriately.

WHO’S IT FOR

This workshop is for Kildare-based artists, creatives and arts workers at any level across the arts and creative sectors.It is open to anyone who wants to build their confidence and skills in responding to inappropriate behaviour in the workplace.

WHY IT MATTERS

Everyone has a role to play in creating safer and more respectful working environments. Bystander intervention can help address inappropriate behaviour early and prevent situations from escalating to the level of unlawful harassment.Developing the skills to intervene safely can empower individuals to contribute to a more positive and inclusive workplace culture.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN

Participants will develop:A greater understanding of bystander intervention

Knowledge and practical tools to respond to harassment and discrimination

The confidence and motivation to intervene safely when they witness inappropriate behaviour

Strategies for addressing inappropriate behaviour before it escalates

WHAT TO EXPECT

The in-person session will provide an opportunity to develop practical skills and explore how bystander intervention can work in real-world workplace situations.This is a follow-on course to the Online Self-Led Bystander Training (https://www.safetocreate.ie/training/being-an-active-bystander/). Therefore it is recommended that participants have completed the online self-led training, though not essential for this workshop.Delivered by Safe to Create. Led by Professor Louise Crowley, Professor of Law at UCC and Director of the UCC Bystander Intervention Programme, and Olwen Dawe, leading policy analyst and consultant, who has an established track record in developing and implementing equality, diversity and inclusion projects.

In partnership with Kildare County Council Arts Service and Creative Communities Kildare.

When: Thu 19 November, 10am – 1pm

(with one scheduled break, tea/coffee will be provided)

Venue: Naas Library & Cultural Centre, Co. Kildare

Cost: Free of charge for artists, creatives and arts workers in the arts and creative sectors in Kildare.

Safe to Create is delighted to offer a limited number of travel and/or accommodation bursaries to participants based outside the host city as necessary.
