A discussion on Local Housing Allowance and the affordability gap will be held on 27 November 2026 at Crisis Skylight Newcastle. The event, organised by Crisis and Society Matters, aims to explore practical steps for making homes more affordable. Attendance is free.
Join Crisis and Society Matters to discuss practical steps to make homes more affordable in every postcode.
Today fewer than 2% of homes are affordable for private renters using Local Housing Allowance in the region, this has massive implications for our region.
The North East has widest disparity of Local Housing Allowance rates, second only to London. This deficit undermines tenancy security, strains household finances, and threatens employment stability.
We’re bringing together local and regional leaders to understand why the North East has reached this tipping point, and to explore how we can work together to prevent more individuals from being pushed into homelessness, improve health outcomes and develop long-term solutions to the housing crisis.
