Scything is becoming an increasingly popular skill. Conservation charities and community groups across the country are turning to scythes to cut down on expenses and pollution. I have taught groups up and down the UK over the last fifteen years and the demand is increasing. So grab this chance to learn how to mow with an Austrian scythe.

We begin the day learning to set up your own scythe to suit you.

Practice mowing in an open meadow.

Learn how to hone the blade with a whet stone.

Manage wild flower meadows and formal lawns.

Run through blade maintenance including peening the blade to re edge it.

Scythe care through the year and the many and varied tasks a scythe can be used for.

We take time out for refreshments. Bring a packed lunch. Meet fellow scythers and have the chance to become part of my group who help each other with mowing.

The Royal Horticultural Society claimed 2023 would be the year of the scythe, with many of their members asking where they could buy one and learn to use it.
