Wayne Barnett, Churchwarden and author of two books - talk takes place at Lower Machen Church

The Morgans of Machen, Ruperra and Tredegar worshipped in Lower Machen for hundreds of years. Join us at the spectacular Grade II* listed mediaeval church to find out more about the family, whose memorials and gravestones are viewable in the recently restored 300-year-old Morgan Chapel. Wayne will tell stories over 500 years, using the largest collection of hatchments in their original position in Wales for reference. Find out how Thomas Morgan’s involvement at the Battle of Bosworth led to the building of the new family home at Plas Machen, and how John the London Merchant rescued the family finances and ensured Ruperra Castle stayed in the Morgan Estate. There will also be fascinating stories of the ladies in the Morgan household and the impact they had on the Morgan wealth and family harmony. This talk takes place at St Michael & All Angels Church, Lower Machen, Newport NP10 8GU, a 10 minute drive from Bedwas Workmen’s Hall.
