C&TA Pamela Clabburn Memorial Lecture: In Sickness and In Health : Norfolk Needlework Stories by Dr Isabella Rosner, Royal School of Needlework

Speaker: Dr Isabella Rosner, Curator of Textiles and Contextural Study Lecturer at the Royal School of Needlework (RSN) and host of the 'Sew What' podcast features some extraordinary historical Norfolk stitchers. She will focus on several Norfolk makers and their textiles, including embroidery artist and former fisherman, John Craske, from Sheringham; social reformer Elizabeth Fry, nee Gurney, from Norwich, who started a program for female convicts on board ships bound for Australia and New Zealand, Charlotte Waite of Winterton-on-Sea and other young sampler makers.

Isabella Rosner is an art historian who studies material culture from the seventeenth through nineteenth century. She specialises in the study of early modern women’s needlework, especially British examples, and schoolgirl samplers across all time periods. Isabella completed her PhD at King's College London, focusing on Quaker women's art (17th-century English needlework and beadwork and 18th-century Philadelphia wax and shellwork) before 1800.
