The Inspire Poetry Festival 2026: Romeo and Juliet Screening (1996) will take place at Southwell Library in Nottingham on 2026-10-01, with a screening of the 1996 film Romeo + Juliet.

Join us for a special Poetry Festival film screening celebrating the much loved Shakespearean play.

Enjoy an introduction by poet, freelance writer and film tutor Andrew Graves as he dives into Shakespeare's famous play updated to the modern suburb of Verona still retaining its original dialogue. The gun-toting members of the families wage a vicious war on the streets as the star-crossed lovers meet their tragic destiny.

Relax during film in the unique setting of Southwell Library after hours.

This screening includes an introduction by Andrew Graves:

Andrew Graves is a poet, freelance writer and film tutor. He has appeared on TV and radio on a number of occasions, featuring on 6 Music’s Cerys Mathews Show, Inside Out and the documentary Evidently John Cooper Clarke. He has had three full poetry collections published by Burning Eye Books and has toured the country with his one person show, God Save the Teen. His first non-fiction title, Welcome to the Cheap Seats: Silver Screen Portrayals of the British Working Class, was published by Five Leaves in 2019. His most recent book, an analysis of Alice Lowe’s film Prevenge, was published by Auteur Publishing in 2022. He has just finished writing a book about A Field in England for Electric Dreamhouse.

He regularly runs cult film-related courses at the Broadway Cinema Nottingham, where he presents Q&As and special screenings. He is a regular contributor to Scream Magazine, The Dark Side, Infinity, We Belong Dead, Arrow Films, 88 Films, 101 Films, Eureka, Second Sight and BFI.

Doors will open 15 minutes before the screening.
