Weave your very own willow basket

While most willow baskets can take a beginner at least a couple of days to create, this small willow basket is designed to enable full construction in one day, without compromising on strength and beauty.

With the design simply scaled back this workshop is suitable for all, and is a great introduction into basket making.

There will be a range of willows and if available, other usable rods for colour and texture - to allow us to get creative with the baskets too!

About the venue

This is a unique willow weaving experience, as we will be weaving right next to the herds of alpacas that live at Oak Tree Farm! There is also a beautiful garden and surrounding woodland.

We expect to be weaving outside within sight of the alpacas. There is some shelter if the weather is really bad - but dress for the outdoors.

There is a small car park at the Farm, parking is free.

The workshop format

This is a practical session, in a small group of up to 6 participants so you you will have lots of support and guidance throughout.

We will go through the construction of a simple basket step by step - from base, to setting uprights, and a simple weave or 2.

You will also learn about different types and varieties of willow used in basket weaving.

We will aim to finish somewhere between 4pm and 5pm depending on where you are with your basket - any baskets not quite finished will be able to go home with full instructions and ample willow to complete! (It can be useful to ensure you have some time available that evening or the next day in case you need it, whilst the willow remains supple).

Considerations for participants

All tools and materials will be provided and are included in the course fee. Some strength in the hands and fingers are needed to work with willow, but help and guidance is always available if needed.
