This webinar invites you on a decolonising journey, from the radical roots of Transactional Analysis to intersectional counselling and psychotherapy on the ground.

Together we'll question the social constructs and "constructed truths" that quietly shape our theory and practice, and explore a model for deconstructing and reconstructing theory through an intersectional lens.

You'll be invited to reflect on your own work: to dialogue through radical openness and non-defence (Hart, 2017), and to own where we sit systemically and our part in upholding supremacies.

The session is grounded in the story of TA East London, founded by Victoria Baskerville in 2018 in an East London library, a response to the "White construct" of counselling and psychotherapy and its normative assumptions (White, heteronormative, binary-gendered, individualistic, neurotypical, middle-class).

TA East set out to build a psychotherapy community from the ground up: lowering fees, encouraging bursaries, and intentionally inviting in those who would not usually see themselves as belonging to the profession. Drawing on activists such as Audre Lorde, bell hooks, James Baldwin, Adrienne Rich and Staceyann Chin, Victoria shares what it has meant to keep that vision alive and to embody intersectionality in practice.
