Join us to celebrate the launch of Creative Methodological Disruptions for Disability Studies: Suspending Ableism, Towards a Critical Humanness (Palgrave Macmillan, 2026), with author Dr Francesca Bernardi.

Drawing on creative, arts-based work with disabled children and their families, Francesca invites us to question the habits and hierarchies built into research itself: to decentre the adult researcher, to honour time and relationship, and to make space for joy, resistance and authentic participation. Weaving together disability studies, the new sociology of childhood and the work of Antonio Gramsci on organic intellectualism, the book offers not only a critique of ableism but a tender, practical vision of what more humane, collaborative inquiry can look like.

In this session Francesca will share the stories, images and ideas behind the book, reflect on what it means to learn from research in humble ways, and open a conversation with the Onlinevents community about creativity, care and critical practice.

This launch will be of interest to counsellors, psychotherapists, educators, researchers, parents and anyone curious about disability, neurodiversity and creative ways of knowing, being and becoming.
