Two years ago the Scottish Government funded SEDA to bring together people from across the built environment sector to discuss the challenge of climate change.

The biggest threat to Scotland’s future is climate change. Scots are already losing their jobs, homes and lives. Nature is pushed towards extinction. Greenhouse gasses are still increasing. 40% of Scotland’s emissions come from the built environment. And we don’t have a plan to stop them.

183 people from 110 organisations in government, industry and civil society met for 5 days in Stirling to discuss how to turn the sector around, transforming our built environment from a threat to all our futures into a driver for an economically thriving, socially just and nature-rich Scotland.

We’ve taken 5 days of evidence and debate and condensed the very best bits into a 1 hour movie. It’s a powerful picture of where we are – scared, confused, disempowered, but also creative, collective and committed. We hear from people flooded out their homes and struggling with fuel poverty, global finance desperate in invest, innovative start-ups looking for a market, architects desperate for carbon regulation, and government officials from Scotland and Denmark look in the mirror.

Join us on Saturday 19th September for the movie premiere at the 2026 SEDA Conference in person in Fife or online. We will show the film and then host Q&A with a panel of four key participants in the Big Conversation:

Chris Stewart is a senior Architect & Past President of RIAS, with a passion for the transformative potential of architecture for social justice.

Rachel Nunn is elected member of Stirling Council with a keen interest in the role of carbon literacy as the basis of strategic decision-making.

Nick Ribbons leads Zero Waste Scotland’s delivery of the circular economy in the construction sector.

Natasha Houchin is the Vice-Chair of SEDA, a director at Zest Architects, and an advocator of sustainable design with extensive experience in conservation.
