About This Event

AI Foundations is a hands-on AI workshop for beginners happening on 4 November 2026 at The Hub at Foulston Park in Devonport, Plymouth. Attendees can reserve a free spot and pay £9.99 on the night. The workshop aims to provide a trustworthy environment for learning about AI.

A hands-on AI workshop for beginners. Bring your phone, ask anything, and learn to check AI. Reserve free, pay £9.99 on the night.

Everyone's talking about AI. Finally, somewhere trustworthy you can ask.

You may already ask AI something every day. What's missing is a circle you can trust: people to ask, swap ideas with and build connections with.

What can it really do for you? What saves you time, what saves you money, and what's just hype? Every Wednesday in Plymouth, with an AI expert from Oxford's Human-Algorithm Interaction Lab. Start from zero, or from wherever you are. No experience needed: just bring your phone. Free AI tools only.

WHO COMES: one room, four reasons to be there

Create: create with AI, teach it, grow your business.

Live better: save time, save money on the letters, forms, plans and budgets that eat your evenings.

Stay informed: what's real, what's hype and what's changing, from a source you can trust.

Younger generation: know what they're using, what's safe, and what's ahead for them.

A NORMAL WEDNESDAY: learn by doing it, and from each other

No lectures. Every Wednesday you use AI on real jobs, try it on something of your own, and swap what worked with the people around you. Every workshop follows the same loop, so you can start any week.

A quick read: four short readings, about ten minutes, in your learning passport.

Do it together: your tutor walks the room through one real case, and you try it there and then.

Do it yourself: use it on something real from your own week. Your tutor checks it and stamps your passport.

Swap ideas: a few people show what they made, where AI got it wrong and how they fixed it. Then everyone trades tips, prompts and questions.

Four things, every workshop: what AI is, how to use it, how to direct and check it, and how to know the risks.

YOUR FIRST EVENING

Arrive from 6:15pm. Find a seat and say hello. We help you get a free AI tool working on your phone, step by step. You try it on something real from your week and see where it gets things wrong. You learn what's safe to share, and what you should never type in. Then you tell us one thing you'd like help with; next week's practice comes from the room.

You go home with AI set up on your own phone, one real thing done with it, a way to check what it tells you, and your first stamp in your learning passport.

YOUR TUTOR

Yiju Jia, founder of Super Individuals CIC and former Industrial Co-Director of the Human-Algorithm Interaction Lab at Oxford Saïd Business School. Before that, 14 years in news and technology, including five years as a researcher at the German press agency dpa, where checking facts and sources was the job. "I'll keep the jargon out, and I'll never ask you to put personal details into AI."
