/sea matterS/ ANALOGUE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP will be hosted at Almanac Cafe in Plymouth on 30 October 2026. Participants will engage in hands-on exploration of analogue photography and sustainable creative practices.
Join OPEN KAMERA CIC for a slow, hands-on exploration of analogue photography, storytelling and sustainable creative practices.
What connects you to the sea?
Is it a childhood memory, a familiar place, an object collected from the shoreline, or perhaps a feeling that is difficult to put into words?
What if you could transform that connection into a photographic object - something tangible to hold, take home, perhaps frame, and keep as a reminder of your own story?
As part of the final celebration of our Blue Sparks project, OPEN KAMERA CIC invites you to explore the relationship between photography, memory, sustainability and the coastal landscape.
Through still-life compositions, poetry, personal objects and handmade pinhole cameras, we will experiment with slower, more considered approaches to image-making.
Using seaweed gathered from Plymouth's coastline, we will explore alternative photographic processes and the possibilities of working with locally sourced, natural materials. By experimenting with seaweed-based developer, we will consider how traditional photographic practices might be reimagined through more environmentally conscious methods.
Together, we will create photographic narratives reflecting our individual relationships with the sea. Participants will have the opportunity to take home their photographic work and contribute to our evolving collective exhibition.
No previous experience is necessary. Bring your curiosity, your stories and, if you wish, a small object that connects you to the sea.
