Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy

The Portland Coastal returns on Sunday 14 February 2027 with Marathon, Half Marathon and 10k options.

This is a self-navigation coastal trail event on the South West Coast Path. It’s honest running on exposed terrain in February. If you’re looking for flat and fast, this isn’t it.

If you want a proper early-season benchmark, welcome.

The Route

The course follows the South West Coast Path around Portland.

• Marathon – two loops of the island

• Half & 10k – single loop sections

This is a self-navigation event. You must download the GPX file in advance and follow it on your device.

There will be no event-specific route markers.

Keep the sea on your left for loop one.

Keep it on your right for loop two.

Shortcuts or deviation from the official route may result in disqualification. Checkpoints confirm full course completion.

This is not for the faint of heart. It is a proper coastal trail event — exposed, demanding and honest.

Mandatory Kit

February on the coast demands responsibility.

All runners must carry the full mandatory kit for the duration of the race.

Kit checks may take place before, during and after the event.

Top 10 male and female finishers will be checked.

Mandatory kit:

• Minimum 500ml fluid capacity

• Windproof jacket (waterproof recommended)

• Emergency nutrition

• Head covering

• Mobile phone (charged, on, waterproofed)

• Foil blanket or full-size bin liner

• Whistle

• Small first aid kit (tape, plasters, wound dressing)

Headphones

Traditional earbuds and noise-cancelling headphones are not permitted.

Bone-conduction devices (e.g. Shokz) are allowed.

Entry Information

Entries are capped at 500.
