A great opportunity to find out all that you ever wanted to know about seaweed!
This walk & talk is led by seaweed expert Ian Tittley from the Natural History Museum and Kent Field Club.
Thanet Coast’s chalk reef provides the perfect substrate for different marine algae communities within the designated North East Kent Marine Protected Area. Join this walk and talk through rock pools and on the chalk reef to discover seaweed, their uses and properties.
These walks are suitable for people of 14 years and above, and last for about 2 hours walking over the ROUGH and SLIPPERY terrain on the beach and rocky shore rockpools. You will need to tread carefully! Please wear footwear suitable for the sand and chalk rocky shore and through rock pools - such as Wetshoes/Crocs or Wellington boots. Please also wear clothing to suit the coastal weather condition on the day (raincoat/windproof - for rain/wind; layers to keep warm, if it is cold; or suntan lotion/hat/cover up to avoid sunburn, if sunny!) Please stay safe and be aware & abide by the Thanet Coastal Codes, Thanet 'Beaches and Coast Public Space Protection Order' (PSPO) and codes of conduct.
Online bookings only as numbers will be limited - with a suggested donation of between £5 to £10pp. Please Note: each booking is for one person only; so need to re-book for each person.
MEET: ON THE BEACH - on the sandy beach at Dumpton Gap, Broadstairs CT10 1TD (below the steps besides the cafe)

If not walking or cycling, then getting there by other transport:
Cars: Parking is available along the adjacent roads at South Cliff Parade, or Western Esplanade.
Bus routes: Open top route 69, or more regular the Loop bus route with 15-20 minute walk.
Rail: Dumpton Park Station is approximately 20 minute walk way
