Explore SEA through photography, conversation and the growing Snapped Margate archive.

This October, in collaboration with our resident artist Jas Dhillon, People Dem Collective is opening up Snapped Margate a growing photographic archive exploring our pillars through images, conversation and collective storytelling.

Snapped Margate first grew out of a week-long residency led by PDC Resident Artist Jas Dhillon, where eight young artists aged 18–23 explored Margate through photography, curiosity, observation and play.

Now we’re opening the process up to our community.

Each Tuesday in October, we’ll gather around one of our pillars. We’ll share what it means to us, but just as importantly, we want to hear what it means to you.

For PDC, SEA is about care, rest and restoration - how we look after ourselves and each other, create space to pause, reconnect and explore what our communities need to feel well and thrive.

Through photography, prompts and conversation, we’ll explore what SEA means to each of us.

Bring an image. Take one. Share a story. Or simply come and join the conversation.

The photographs and stories gathered throughout October will become part of the growing Snapped Margate archive, building a collective picture of Margate through our different perspectives.

You don’t need to be a photographer or have any photography experience. Just bring yourself, your perspective and, if you want to, an image that speaks to Sea for you.

Who is this for?

This gathering is for our Black, Brown + Global Majority community.

At People Dem Collective, some of our programme is intentionally created as space for our communities to gather, connect and explore shared experiences. We believe there is value in being able to come together in this way, without having to explain, translate or make ourselves smaller.

Other parts of our programme are open to everyone, creating opportunities for neighbours, friends and allies to come together around joy, creativity, conversation and the values we share.

Both are important to us.

So if this particular event isn’t for you, thank you for understanding why we hold these spaces. There will be other moments throughout October where we’d love to welcome you through the doors.

What to bring

You can bring a photograph that makes you think about SEA, ancestry, memory, movement, nourishment or joy.

It can be taken on your phone, an old photograph, or something you photograph on the day.

And if you don’t have an image, that’s absolutely fine, you can simply come along and take part.
