About This Event

The Thames Valley IOSH Community will host an in-person event on hearing protection at the University of Reading on 20 January 2027. The session will cover the impact of hazardous noise on health, the role of Hearing Protection Devices and the importance of compatibility with other personal protective equipment.

Join Thames Valley IOSH Community for this in-person event on hearing protection, fit and PPE compatibility to help prevent hearing loss.

Hearing loss caused by hazardous noise affects millions of people worldwide. Many work activities require the use of Hearing Protection Devices (HPDs) alongside other forms of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as protective eyewear. When these items are not compatible, the level of protection provided may be reduced.

This session will explore the key factors that should be considered when selecting hearing protection to ensure it is both effective and suitable for the user.

What we will cover

The impact of hazardous noise on hearing health

The role of Hearing Protection Devices (HPDs) in reducing risk

Why compatibility between HPDs and other PPE is important

How poor fit can affect protection levels

Practical considerations when selecting hearing protection

The importance of comfort, fit and compatibility in supporting effective use

Why attend?

Gain a better understanding of how the right selection, fit and compatibility of hearing protection can help ensure workers receive the protection they need while remaining comfortable and able to carry out their tasks effectively.
