When Every Saturday 10:45 – 12:15 About the Event Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM) is a gentle yet profound meditation practice rooted in the earliest teachings of the Buddha, as taught by the late Bhante Vimalaramsi. It combines tranquility (samatha), insight (vipassanā), mindfulness, and loving-kindness (mettā) to cultivate a relaxed, joyful, and deeply aware mind. At the heart of TWIM is the 6R Process —a simple and practical method for working with distractions, letting go of habitual reactions, and returning to a state of ease and clarity. Rather than suppressing thoughts or forcing concentration, TWIM teaches practitioners how to recognize and release craving and tension, allowing the mind to naturally settle into deeper states of peace and collectedness, including the jhānas. The six steps of the 6Rs are: Recognize when the mind has become distracted. Release the distraction without judgment or resistance. Relax the subtle tension in both the body and mind. Re-smile to bring lightness, kindness, and balance back to the practice. Return to the meditation object, usually the feeling of loving-kindness (mettā). Repeat the process whenever the mind wanders. Throughout the event, participants will learn how loving-kindness naturally develops into the Four Divine Abodes ( Brahmavihāras )—loving- kindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity. As these wholesome qualities deepen, the practice also provides direct insight into Dependent Origination, helping practitioners see the impersonal nature of thoughts, feelings, and habitual reactions. Through this understanding, craving gradually weakens, leading to greater freedom, peace, and the gradual ending of suffering. This event is suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. Whether you are new to meditation or looking to deepen an existing practice, TWIM offers a practical path for cultivating lasting inner peace and wisdom in everyday life. About the Facilitator Ross Deighton has been exploring meditation and the path of inner development for more than twenty years. During that time, he practiced a variety of meditation traditions and studied with different teachers, always seeking a deeper understanding of the mind and the causes of suffering. In 2022, Ross was introduced to Tranquil Wisdom Insight Meditation (TWIM). Through regular practice and guidance from experienced TWIM teachers, including his first 10-day retreat, he found an approach that brought greater ease, clarity, and a deeper understanding of the Buddha’s teachings. The emphasis on loving-kindness, relaxation, and direct insight resonated deeply with him and continues to shape both his practice and daily life. Ross is passionate about sharing TWIM in a way that is welcoming, practical, and grounded in the original teachings of the Buddha. He enjoys supporting others as they discover for themselves the possibility of greater peace, wisdom, and freedom through consistent practice. Outside of teaching meditation, Ross enjoys playing music with friends, dancing, helping to run a small family business, and exploring practices that cultivate awareness and wellbeing, including enlightened communication, Qigong, and Nei Gong within the Taoist tradition. Accessibility The Wellspring Room is fully accessible. The Salisbury Centre’s kitchen door and toilet are now wheelchair accessible. The Garden can also be accessed by wheelchairs via a movable ramp via the Art Room Annex. Please let the organisers know in advance of any access requirements. Additionally, if relevant, please fill in this PEEP template and share it with the organisers. Cost & Booking This event is by donation. Please contact Ross Deighton on 07724741487 or rossdeighton@hotmail.com to book or for more information.
